Updated Skincare Routine

I’ve blogged about my skincare routine a couple of times before but thought I’d write an updated version of what’s been working for me recently. As I’ve moved into my mid thirties my skin isn’t as oily as it was once, although large pores are still a concern I’m now finding that my skin is more combination than previously with dry patches but an oily t-zone. This routine is just what is working for my skin right now as follows:

Morning

I cleanse in the morning in the morning with Superdrug Tea Tree Facial Wash which is use along with the Boots Your Good Skin Softening Facial Brush.

I then use the Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Toner, the Naturally Radiant range is really good value for money & has really good reviews on the website. It’s usually always in special offer too!

Then I use the Boots Your Good Skin SPF 30 Antioxidant Day Cream to moisturise. I like to use a moisturiser with an SPF as my foundation only has an SPF of 10 which I don’t think is really high enough for everyday wear.

I then prime my face and apply my makeup.

Night

At night I remove my makeup with the Boots Essentials Cleansing wipes (which I can’t seem to find a link for on the Boots website) and the Garnier Skin Active Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water on cotton wool.

I then cleanse my face as before with the tea tree face wash & face brush. I also like to use a scrub on a night to ensure my skin is clean, the Super Facialist Salicyclic Acid Anti Blemish Purify & Refresh Facial Scrub is one that I’ve found is not too harsh for everyday use.

I then tone my skin using the Alba Botanica AcneDote Deep Clean Astringent which has 2% salicylic acid to help cleanse & reduce the appearance of my pores.

To moisturise at night I like to use the Boots No7 Youthful Replenishing Facial Oil and I really recommend this as it showed a difference in my skin overnight the first time I used it!

I’ve also been using the Superdrug Naturally Radiant Renewing Night Cream which leaves my skin so soft when I wake up in the morning.

As I say, this is just what works for me and obviously everyone’s skin is different so I can’t say if it will work for you too. The products I use are all really reasonably priced which makes it so surprising to me that they work so well for me after years of unsuccessfully spending fortunes on skincare! My skin is mostly clear using the above routine everyday religiously, although I do still get the occasional spot.

I hope this was a useful update – let me know if you use any of these products or if you have any recommendations of what works for you.

Nails Inc London Unicorns

So everyone knows I’m Nails Inc’s biggest fan, including my best pal, Mull, who treated me to this amazing Nails Inc gift set for my birthday this week.

The Nails Inc Beauty of Dreams Deluxe Unicorn Beauty Gift Set contains 2 sheet face masks, 1 peel off face mask, a lipstick, a lip gloss & 2 nail varnishes. The nail varnishes are Rainbow Wishes, an iridescent blue/purple/pink and Dream Dust, a pink and gold glitter.

These nail varnishes are soooo me, I love them so much, especially Dream Dust which I currently can’t stop staring at on my ring fingers.

Both nail colours were opaque in one coat, which I was surprised at for Dream Dust, as you usually have to work hard for full coverage glitter – however, not in this case!

I can’t wait to use the rest of the set – but for right now, photographs show how my nails turned out. In the photos I’m wearing one coat of Nails Inc Ridgefiller with Collagen base coat, 2 coats of colour and one coat of Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Top Coat with Collagen.

I’ve wanted these nail varnishes since they first came out, I’m loving my nails right now – let me know what you think!

Thanks Mull; you’re the best x

Barry M Frosted Cupcakes Strawberries & Cream

I’m such a sucker for shimmer & glitter, if it’s sparkly; I have to have it. So as soon as I saw the Barry M Frosted Cupcakes range I knew I’d buy one. The one I chose is Strawberries & Cream, a very pale pink with flecks of white translucent glitter. It genuinely does look like cupcake frosting, especially up close.

This polish is quite similar to the Essence shade Engaged, which I reviewed at Christmas, here. Strawberries & Cream is a lot less satin in its finish though, drying to a shiny but slightly frosted effect. It also has larger flecks of glitter than Engaged. They’re both equally as pretty but I much prefer the finish of Strawberries & Cream. It’s such a delicate colour & would be ideal for a wedding or even just every day wear at work.

Application was easy, the square brush makes it easy to control where the polish goes and the thick consistency of the polish ensures a smooth & even application. Photographs show 1 coat of Essie First Base, 2 coats of colour & 1 coat of Essie Good To Go. Although the polish was perfectly even and opaque after 1 coat, force of habit always compels me to apply 2.

I bought this polish from the Superdrug website here, and it was ยฃ3.99. I had to buy online after searching in both big Boots stores & a large Superdrug store in town and finding it sold out in all 3 on 3 separate occasions. I think that speaks for itself and I can certainly see why it is so popular!

Nails Inc Sweet Almonds Powered By Matcha – Mayfair Market

I haven’t blogged about a manicure & pedicure for a while as I haven’t been buying as many new nails polishes. However, when I saw this particular polish via a tweet from Nails Inc, I just couldn’t resist treating myself.

Nails Inc Mayfair Market is a stunningly subtle metallic rose gold. I am so in love with how this polish looks on my nails right now! It’s a light bronze tone which was perfectly opaque after one coat. It claims on the bottle to have a superfood boost, and the polish contains sweet almond oil & matcha to encourage nail wellness.

This polish looks almost nude against my skin colour, it is so shimmery and understated, I think it’s a really wearable alternative to either gold or pink (my two favourite colours!). I haven’t seen a shade like this in a nail polish anywhere before, it is identical to rose gold jewellery and would compliment it perfectly. It also looks great on my toes and I can’t wait until the spring weather gets a bit better so I can wear sandals to show it off.

Application, as always, was so easy with the square brush. Nails Inc make the most beautiful brushes since they changed the shape of their bottles & I am so glad they did. This polish is available to purchase from the Nails Inc website,  although I bought mine from Fenwick in Newcastle.

Photographs show a base coat, 2 coats of colour and a top coat.

MAC Russian Red

So, I think my new thing is red lipsticks, I am so in love with this colour. Russian Red by MAC is a slightly matte, deep red and it’s my new all time favourite. I first dabbled with red lipstick earlier this year when I bought MAC Everyday Diva, which is a glossy, pillar box red. However, Russian Red suits my skin tone so much better, since I got it, it is the only lipstick I have worn, it has never been off my lips!

Despite being a matte colour, it is not drying at all. It is much easier to apply than Everyday Diva, as the colour does not bleed at all, which results in a much crisper and more defined Cupid’s bow. I also think the shade is sexier, even if I do say so myself!

I have been using MAC Cherry lip pencil as a liner with this shade, and it is a near perfect match.

Russian Red is available to buy here. Does anyone have a favourite MAC red lipstick? How about Ruby Woo? I’d be interested to hear people’s experiences of this, as I think it will probably be my next lipstick purchase.

Thanks for reading!

MAC Everyday Diva

Bank holidays mean treats, so this weekend I treated myself to a new lipstick and lip liner. MAC Everyday Diva is a glossy, pillar box red, classic lipstick. I got the MAC Cherry lip pencil to use with it and it blends perfectly. I really like this lipstick, I’ve never worn red before but I thought it was about time to try new things away from my favoured baby pink or nude lipsticks.

Everyday Diva is really bright and I think it really compliments my skin tone. It’s not something I would wear during the day to work, as I wouldn’t feel office appropriate in this given my full lips and prominent Cupid’s Bow, however, I think this will definitely be my go to on upcoming nights out! Application was easy enough, but without using a lipliner you wouldn’t have to have the steadiest hands known to mankind to get this on perfectly. Using a lipliner to outline my lips made applying this lipstick simple and quick. I would certainly recommend MAC Cherry as an ideal partner to this lipstick.
Everyday Diva and Cherry are available to buy here and here.

What do you think and which lipsticks are you loving at the moment? Let me know and thanks for reading!

Benefit The POREfessional

I always feel slightly conscious of my pores being large and I dislike the fact my make up sits in them and so doesn’t look as smooth as it could, so I thought I’d give the Benefit Porefessional primer a try. This primer claims to minimise the look of pores.

I found it easy to apply, I patted it on the problem areas on my cheeks and it immediately gave an airbrushed look. It set like concrete! However, after I’d applied my foundation, powder and blusher the result was somewhat diminished from the initial application without make up. It certainly did minimise my pores, but definitely didn’t get rid of them all together which I would have much preferred. However, as a primer it is amazing! My make up was set for the entire day, I only did a couple of powder touch ups through an entire working day, 8 hours in an air conditioned office. For my oily skin this is unbelievable!! So I’m quite pleased with my purchase.
