Essence Out Of Space Stories – 01 Outta Space Is The Place

OMG! I’m not sure how to describe this nail polish! It’s kind of an iridescent white/pink/green/purple colour. It reminds me of the opal ring I got for my 21st birthday. It’s perfectly pearlescent.

I’m so impressed with the quality of these Essence polishes, this one was only £2.00 from Wilko, and I personally think it’s comparable to the Nails Inc unicorn polish which is priced at £14.00.

Application was easy due to the shape of the brush and the quality of the polish which meant it was opaque after just one coat.

Photographs show a base coat, 2 coats of colour and a top coat.

Color Club Kapow!

Color Club Kapow! is a neon pink with a purple sheen. It’s what I would describe as a complete Barbie pink. It is so, so vibrant; definitely not for any shrinking violets among you! It has turned some heads today & this is the first day I’ve worn it. I originally saw this colour on Instagram a couple of days ago on a nail blogger & knew immediately I had to have it. A little bit of research lead me to find it was released in summer 2014, but thankfully I found it still available on Amazon. It was £5 which isn’t unreasonable given how beautiful it is.

Application was okay, it could have been better if the brush was bigger and flatter but it wasn’t a disaster. The formula is a gorgeous jelly which applied patchy on the first coat but evened out with the second. A pleasant surprise was the shine it has, even before a top coat it was shiny, whereas with previous neon polishes I’ve worn this hasn’t been the case and they’ve dried to a matte finish before top coat application.

Barry M Frosted Cupcakes Strawberries & Cream

I’m such a sucker for shimmer & glitter, if it’s sparkly; I have to have it. So as soon as I saw the Barry M Frosted Cupcakes range I knew I’d buy one. The one I chose is Strawberries & Cream, a very pale pink with flecks of white translucent glitter. It genuinely does look like cupcake frosting, especially up close.

This polish is quite similar to the Essence shade Engaged, which I reviewed at Christmas, here. Strawberries & Cream is a lot less satin in its finish though, drying to a shiny but slightly frosted effect. It also has larger flecks of glitter than Engaged. They’re both equally as pretty but I much prefer the finish of Strawberries & Cream. It’s such a delicate colour & would be ideal for a wedding or even just every day wear at work.

Application was easy, the square brush makes it easy to control where the polish goes and the thick consistency of the polish ensures a smooth & even application. Photographs show 1 coat of Essie First Base, 2 coats of colour & 1 coat of Essie Good To Go. Although the polish was perfectly even and opaque after 1 coat, force of habit always compels me to apply 2.

I bought this polish from the Superdrug website here, and it was £3.99. I had to buy online after searching in both big Boots stores & a large Superdrug store in town and finding it sold out in all 3 on 3 separate occasions. I think that speaks for itself and I can certainly see why it is so popular!

Essence Christmas Party Nails

I thought I’d share with you the nails I wore for the Christmas party. I created this look using Essence Engaged and On Air!.

Engaged is a very delicate creme baby pink with a hint of shimmer. It was opaque in one coat but as usual I applied two. It dries to a satin finish, however, after I added a top coat it is shiny the way I like my nails.

On Air! is a fully coverage gold glitter polish and I think one of the best glitter nail polishes I’ve used. It is opaque in 2 coats which is what I applied.

I really can’t rave enough about the quality of these nail polishes especially for their low price! They are so easy to apply due to the flat, square brush and I am developing quite a collection!

Photographs show one coat of Essie First Base, 2 coats of colour and one coat of OPI RapidDry top coat. These nail polishes are available to buy here and in Wilkinsons stores in the U.K.

Nails Inc Sweet Almonds Powered By Matcha – Mayfair Market

I haven’t blogged about a manicure & pedicure for a while as I haven’t been buying as many new nails polishes. However, when I saw this particular polish via a tweet from Nails Inc, I just couldn’t resist treating myself.

Nails Inc Mayfair Market is a stunningly subtle metallic rose gold. I am so in love with how this polish looks on my nails right now! It’s a light bronze tone which was perfectly opaque after one coat. It claims on the bottle to have a superfood boost, and the polish contains sweet almond oil & matcha to encourage nail wellness.

This polish looks almost nude against my skin colour, it is so shimmery and understated, I think it’s a really wearable alternative to either gold or pink (my two favourite colours!). I haven’t seen a shade like this in a nail polish anywhere before, it is identical to rose gold jewellery and would compliment it perfectly. It also looks great on my toes and I can’t wait until the spring weather gets a bit better so I can wear sandals to show it off.

Application, as always, was so easy with the square brush. Nails Inc make the most beautiful brushes since they changed the shape of their bottles & I am so glad they did. This polish is available to purchase from the Nails Inc website,  although I bought mine from Fenwick in Newcastle.

Photographs show a base coat, 2 coats of colour and a top coat.

Essence Party Princess

OMG, I’m so in love with my manicure and pedicure this week. Essence The Gel Nail Polish in no.07 Party Princess is, as the name suggests, a pink, sparkly delight! I’d not used any of the Essence nail polishes before, but I saw them in Wilkinsons the other day when I was buying bubble bath, and because they were so cheap and so cute I had to buy one. Obviously, being the girliest girl in Newcastle I was immediately drawn to this one. I think if my personality was bottled and sold in nail varnish form, it would look a lot like Party Princess.

Essence party princess is an opaque, jelly nail polish with flecks of multicoloured glitter. You could probably get it to be full coverage if you applied enough coats, but I applied it over 2 coats of Nails Inc Fiesta (a bright, showstopping pink). I really love the way the flecks of glitter look as the catch the light, all different colours as apposed to a uniform silver glitter you might find in similar nail polishes.

Application was really easy due to the flat, wide brush. I much prefer a flat brush to a round one, so that was a bonus in this nail polish. Party Princess is available to buy here, and is priced at only £1.60! Photographs show a base coat, 2 coats of Nails Inc Fiesta, 1 coat of Essence Party Princess and a top coat. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Nails Inc Fiesta

I just love it when Nails Inc give away free nail polishes with a magazine. This month with Marie Claire you can choose from 4 different Nails Inc shades, I chose Fiesta which is a vibrant pink colour. The formula of this polish is amazing! One coat would have been suffice, which made application easy.

Photographs show a base coat, 2 coats of colour and a top coat, although these photographs don’t capture entirely the true shade of the polish, in reality it is a deep shade of the pink, the photos make it look brighter than it is. In some lights it is almost red. I’m really pleased with this colour, I don’t usually buy magazines but it was definitely worth making an exception for this free gift. I think this polish will look stunning all through summer, and it looks especially nice on my toes as we speak – I cannot wait until it is warm enough to wear sandals to show it off! If Barbie got a pedicure I think she’d choose Nails Inc Fiesta!
